I cannot tell a lie….one of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a wedding is sampling wedding cakes!
I imagine Kayla’s fiance, Jeff would agree. He joined us, along with our wedding planner extraordinaire – Nishaka Proctor – for a fun afternoon of cake tasting. Kayla, Jeff, Nishaka and I did our sampling at a business with a very fun name: Let Me Call You Sweet Art. We got to taste three flavors of cake, chosen prior to us coming based on information Kayla had provided.
Owner Janet Hall specializes in wedding and celebration cakes and does a wonderful job of really customizing the cake to the client. Kayla showed Janet a photo of a cake she liked, and Janet made some suggestions that would make it unique for Kayla’s wedding. Janet will provide Kayla with a sketch of her proposed cake design.
Janet had set the table to make it a sampling “experience” rather than just sitting down to a table full of cakes. We got to taste three flavors of cake, chosen in advance based on information Kayla had provided. Janet has so many varieties of cakes…I counted 63 on her website! These are flavors you don’t find at many bakeries, such as Cappuccino and Banana Caramel Delicious. Needless to say, we had a fun time tasting! I can’t share which flavors Kayla and Jeff chose, but I think their guests will be happy.
Next, we moved on to bridesmaids dresses (without Jeff but picking up Brittany, Dana and Jessica). Kayla had already been looking around and had selected a dress she hoped her bridesmaids would like (blue dress to the left). All of the girls tried on the dress and were pleased, so we placed our order. Another item to check of the list!
We also purchased swatches for wedding colors, and Kayla tried on some dresses to wear on her honeymoon. She’s thinking about this white one:
Slowly but surely, we are making progress and completing the tasks needed for this wedding to happen! My hope is that Kayla doesn’t get too stressed with all the decision-making and really enjoys the journey to the wedding day. There is much anticipation for this special day – and as with the holidays right now, the anticipation is a large part of the ultimate joy.
I hope that all of you and your loved ones have a joyous and very, merry Christmas this year! Talk to you in 2013!
